Within the thirteen songs in this collection, the ideas that are given voices are ones that periodically return to face me - the replenishment of wonder provided by the wider world, and the inspirations, mysteries and transformations that occur. Couple these with the chasing of shadows and illusions and the tricks played by our senses, with the possibilities of inner resourcefulness and the vitality of the present moment. Mix all this with some timeless weighing of reason against emotion and most of the ingredients are then laid out.

Apart from trying to live with my antennae alive and alert,
external influence from the written word has a significant
impact on me. In recent times, the writings of Robert
MacFarlane, and the touchstone he creates to others, have
tuned my thinking and observational powers. Also, re-
reading Alan Watts has been a joyous and provocative ride
through the heartlands of is-ness and the words and films
of Werner Herzog continue to trigger all sorts of paths of
thought. From time to time, the activities of certain people
inspire reflection and gain individual representation. Here,
it is Joseph Ferdinand Cheval (1836-1924), a French
postman by day but an obsessional creator afterhours.
There is plenty of written, visual and actual evidence of his
life's work out there in the world.
